Every child has been created as a wonderful, unique individual, full of curiosity, creativity and a natural spreader of joy. Yet sadly, amidst the task of growing, the words of their peers and the messages pumped out of devices, too many children are lacking confidence and experiencing signs of low self-esteem.

And the frustrating part? It does not have to be this way!

The best way for a child to realise their potential is to become aware of what is already placed within them.

The Bible contains many verses that serve as beautiful reminders of who we are each created to be. Here are eight that reveal personal truths that I believe every child should know.

You are wonderful

Psalm 139:14
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Marvelous are Your works, And that my soul knows very well.

As the Psalm conveys, we have each been created with awesome, intricate detail, reverence, and a unique purpose. This Psalm highlights the marvelous complexity of human beings as a testament to our magnificent Creator.

You are protected

Psalm 46:1
ELOHIYM is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble.

We are reminded that our Creator is our safe place who we can run to in times of trouble. He is the ultimate source of our strength and someone we can always turn to through troubled times.

I am capable

Philippians 4:13
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Every child should know that they are capable of great things when they put their trust in Christ who gives them the strength for each task.

I am loved

John 3:16
For ELOHIYM so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

It is important that children know that they are loved no matter what. Sometimes we can face people or circumstances that make us feel inadequate and unloved. During these moments, it is useful to remember that ELOHIYM loves us all.

We are loved not for how we look or what we can do. Instead, we are loved purely and simply for being ourselves.

I am guided

Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in YHVH with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.

Life can feel scary sometimes. There are just so many choices and so many opportunities to make the wrong decision. As children grow, they can become more aware of the impact of their decisions which can feel heavy and overwhelming for some.

Reminding a child that YHVH will take control when we invite Him to is a powerful way to alleviate that pressure. Just knowing that the future is in His hands can free them up to have more confidence about their actions.

I am renewed

2 Corinthians 5:17
Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Children should be aware that they need to make good choices however it is natural to make mistakes a times. We do not need to carry the weight of regret because when we trust Christ with our lives, all things are become new.

I am wanted

1 Peter 2:9
 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light;

YHVH does not make mistakes, therefore every child should know that their existence is a sign that they are wanted and chosen. If YHVH did not want them, He would not have created them in the first place.

This truth is incredibly important to know as we all have moments through life where we can feel we are not wanted. While people may at times make us feel unwanted, YHVH does not change His mind.

I have a purpose

Jeremiah 29:11
For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith YHVH, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.

The term ‘expected end’ has also been translated as ‘a future and a hope.’ Every child should know that they have a future and that their time on earth was orchestrated with meaning and intention.

We each have a purpose which becomes uncovered the more we trust YHVH with our lives. He will take us on the journey of learning the right lessons and acquiring the right skills that will allow us to be the best versions of ourselves and to make a difference to others. Purpose can be practiced every day simply by being helpful to others.
